Finger of Fate

The planets sometimes decorate the sky with interesting designs. Mars, Jupiter and Pluto have agreed to make September a rather interesting month as they manoeuvre themselves into a configuration known as a yod. Those with knowledge of yods may wince nervously at the thought of enduring a whole month of yod experiences and they do not shudder in vain as this planetary picture does have a rather portentous reputation.

The planets move into position on the 3rd September 2005 and slide out of formation on the 3rd October. From the 15th to the 20th September the energy intensifies and is at its strongest on the 17th and 18th, perfectly timed with the full moon. However, there is a tendency for the intensity to peak at other times during the month – different strokes for different folks.

A look at yods in general may be useful before exploring the significance of the Mars, Jupiter and Pluto yod. Certain ancient teachings refer to the yod as a celestial pointer, the Finger of God or the finger of fate because it shows the way to a destiny type moment or an important purpose. This may sound very exciting but the path to that illustrious point is littered with painful incidents including loss, sacrifice and separation. Before achieving the grand moment that alters our destiny, a profound transformation must occur. Certain things have to change that stand between us and the fabulous triumph. The pain facilitates a change in consciousness that probably could not have occurred without the anguish.

The natural reaction is to resist with all our might as the agony of loss is too awful to contemplate. Resistance increases the intensity to intolerable levels and then something breaks. The ensuing relief is like a cool drink of water in a parched desert and we no longer care that we had to let go of our greatest form of security or lose something that once was not negotiable, we just don’t care! The shift occurs as a result of a mental adjustment, a change of heart and a different way of behaving.

In some way the yod serves the purpose of changing victim consciousness. It slams us into victim mode and we then must choose to either flounder in the seemingly helpless place or make a change that enables us to be liberated from the victim’s shackles. Not only do we soar free, we discover dormant abilities and hidden talents to do something quite spectacular. The moment the change happens the yod provides a tenfold return on whatever was lost. It comes in an entirely new and improved form. The gratitude at this point is immense.

This particular yod is forcing a breakthrough into another direction, a different way of life or the emerging of innovative talents. Our consciousness opens to a new discovery – in personal terms or in global terms. It opens a new form of expression. An old stagnating way of life becomes impossible to maintain and the yod energy forces a change of circumstance. This particularly applies to the work arena but could spill into personal situations too. Quirky occurrences suddenly take us along a new path that was not anticipated, perhaps desired but not currently within reach. The breakthrough happens and suddenly it is all possible!

Financial insecurity interferes with the ability to share or to express generosity. The yod exposes meanness of spirit and tightly clenched fists that desperately cling to assumed forms of security or old habits. A change of perspective and a good dose of trust will make the world of difference.

Explosions of self-righteous anger bombard peace of mind. Everything becomes unbearably tight. Fuses are short and an outburst releases unsaid words that have lain still for far too long. The uncomfortable explosion has a healthy angle; it not only gets rid of unconscious garbage it lights up inappropriate assertiveness. It clearly illustrates where we have been too pushy or alternatively demonstrates a lack of assertiveness where we have held back for too long. Old moulds are broken and new ones are formed.

This yod illuminates TRUTH. It becomes evident that it may be necessary to give up something that is not really true to our lifestyle. It may not be that we are living a horrible lie or that the thing that has to go is bad, it may even be something quite normal or something quite good, it just does not align with the truth of who we are or a future direction. It could be a possession, an old habit, a project, a job or simply a way of life.

Mars will stamp his impetuous foot insisting that we hold onto the old thing. Jupiter asks wisely “Do you really need it, is it true to your lifestyle? Is it the way forward? There is so much more if only you would let go and trust.”

Mars’s voice booms in one ear, “Fight back, don’t stand for it! Don’t let go! You can do it; I’ll give you the courage to fight them all!” The calmer voice of Jupiter sounds in the other ear, “At this time it is wiser to yield to the force of change. You are unable to see right now but there is great success ahead. All you have to do is let go.”

Then the voice of Pluto stirs from deep within luring us into the underworld to conquer a personal demon that imprisons us in an old worn out and rather useless belief. As we all know, the journey through the underworld is never an easy one. Pluto urges us to transform, “The power is yours if you face your demon. The antiquated beliefs must die.” The internal war rages and we are witness to angry eruptions, exaggerated emotions and power battles.

Once we yield to the force of change we discover that the yod holds a formula for success. This success takes many forms – the achievement of something of huge significance, in personal terms of course, like my friends Jan and Stu who as I type these words are climbing Kilimanjaro. It is possible to attain a long cherished goal. It may be the initiation of a new course of action or a new career, in fact whatever is initiated at this time holds the potential to carry power and influence and is likely to grow and expand into something much bigger than was initially imagined or intended and is likely to be hugely successful.

There is confidence to build something that brings material status and security with the useful combination of creativity and practical skills. Growth occurs with a willingness to learn. Advertising, communication and travel assist to achieve personal success.

Aspirations for harmonious relationship, emotional & financial security abound. Success is available through the arts, music and literature. In fact a successful outcome for any creative project is within reach.
Music will soften the sometimes jagged edge. Dance to music that moves the soul to fill the universe. Sing from the middle of the belly till the chest wants to burst with happiness. Fly free on the exquisite sound. Dance and sing!

Once the excruciating work of the yod is done the sweet taste of success is ours in all its tenfold glory!
