Extra... I've just heard that the Big Green Gathering has been cancelled at the last minute. As some of you will be aware, I was a founding member of the BGG, the whole Earth Energies area was my idea in 1994, and I was elected to the board of directors in November 2007 on a platform of transparency and a willingness to open up all of the financial transactions to public scrutiny. I resigned at the end of July last year due to my lack of trust and faith in other director's financial judgement, a decision which has now been vindicated. I feel angry and disappointed that something that I've fought for for fifteen years of my life has been trashed by what I see as the head in the sand mentality of a few incompetent idealists who refuse to face financial reality. Thousands if not tens of thousands of ticket holders to whom this may have been their only holiday of the year have seemingly lost their money, as have the stallholders who have paid up front and the crew who won't be paid. The Big Green was a part of my life, and now it's finished. There will be many more endings over the coming five weeks, the end game hinted at for so long is upon us now. Roll on mid-end September.

Did you do a chart for the BGG when it started? Are there any current astrological portents which would hint at this being the end?

Hi Steve. I, like you, am devastated by what has been going on with the BGG, feel desperately sorry for all those who have lost out big time and am sad but relieved that I decided last month that I could not be part of it any more. For a while there it was the best festival to be found and was the highlight of my summers for most of its 15 years, with its perfect mix of green ethos and glorious fun. I got close to crunch time two years ago when they sold out and brought Lost Vagueness in - did they really think we'd not notice the diesel generators? But it was their treatment this year of the Greencrafts organisers that finally did it for me. And when I see the band list this time I wonder whatever happened to 'small is beautiful'? How about a Small Green Gathering?
