OK, ok..... In brief - just one of the reasons why the time of birth is so important is to dictate the shape of the chart. Without digging it out I can't verify this, but I know from personal experience over three decades of doing horoscopes that if the majority of planets in a chart are on the left, then the person is dedicated more to free will, choice and self determination, and if they are on the right then the principle is primarily fate, destiny and pre determination. Similarly, if the planets are predominantly above the horizon, then the person experiences directly and becomes more outgoing, whilst if they are in the bottom of the chart then the person assimilates and ponders and becomes more internalised. And if the planets in your chart are all over the place, try looking at life as though you have many lessons instead of just a few. The sign and house position of the planets is the window dressing, it is the angles they make to each other that determine characteristics, whether individual or generational. Remember though, that every single person/chart is unique and different and can never be replicated, so individual experiences will always differ. At the end of the day, one planet, seven billion different worlds.

As excellent a succinct summary of the hemispheres and quadrants as I've ever read.
One can extract so much information from a horoscope simply by analysing its structure.
If I might just add one p.s.: Remember too that a horoscope is simply a symbol, it is we who infuse it with the Conscious Energy which gives it life.
I wish you a wonderful new year Steve and thanks for all your great insights.

Dear Steve, in which case no wonder I feel as if I'm assimilating an awful lot of fate ! But seriously does that mean I have less free will than potentially you? Surely we must all have the same chance to change things Otherwise I want to know why was I dealt such an unfair hand? AND I don't agree houses are just window dressing - why on earth do you think that? I do know a lot of namby pambys try to prettify and simplify house meanings esp. re the 12th of miseries making them a bit useless ,but you are unlikely to be doing that. Stroll back to the early meanings - they're useful...c'mon explain!
Ps Is it becos I've been round so many times before that I've got to have it especially difficult from now on hence little room to manoevre?

I've just checked this out against my own chart & find the planets primarily on the right & evenly balanced above/below horizon. I love that it makes so much sense to me. I've long observed the workings of fate & pre-determination in my life, & have loved the cosmic feelings this inspires in me. So I seem to fit your picture - but I'm ever open to co-creation, & my own will playing a part!
Thanks so much for your blog - which I only discovered this year. Your experience & insight light up my understanding astrology in a fabulous way! x

I've studied astrology for a couple of decades but lately am having conflicting thoughts on the subject. Your post about planets on the right and left of the chart brought up the very reason why I'm having conflicting emotions. New metaphysical and scientific information I'm hearing(for instance in the movie "The Secret") says that we are all powerful thought transmitters. That we create our life with our thoughts. Can you elaborate on fate vs free-will concept in the context of hemisphere emphasis. Do you feel that if we have more planetary emphasis on the left we have already "learned" about free will? Thanks for your thoughts.
