February 2012 - for the video go here

Neptune changes sign properly this month for the first time in fourteen years, into Pisces.  Over the coming times I expect more panic and fear about floods and environmental depreciation, but also developing hydrogen and desalination technology to rapidly develop, as well as (sigh) a rapid expansion in so called clairvoyant and channelling practices.  Pluto is happily trundling through Capricorn calmly destroying and obliterating everything in its path, and reforming and regenerating as it does so, whilst Uranus is really beginning to pick up speed, and will make the first of a significant number of squares to Pluto over the coming months - it's warming up during February, so don't expect the global economic dynamic to suddenly improve.  Saturn is not doing anything new, plateauing at the very end of Libra - but it is Jupiter that is beginning to come into the ascendancy.  It's beginning to really accelerate at the start of Taurus, and as March develops so I anticipate startling developments and revelations about further economic subterfuge.  During February expect the continual drip-drip of ever worsening scandal, but never quite enough to tip the balance....  The new Moon on February 21 is conjunct Neptune, so some type of mystique, glamour or other form of enchanting news story will prove to have been of little substance, merely an imaginative fiction...  February is fertile, creative and brewing up a nice little concoction in readiness for the maturity and development of March.

January is a month of contrasts.  On the one hand, there's both Jupiter and Uranus, both at the very start of the sign they are in and both just about to start moving forward rapidly, suggesting both significant change and areas of growth.  On the other hand, there's both Saturn and Neptune at the very end of the signs that they are in, suggesting a great deal of endings and closure.  These are the planetary ‘big boys', the influences that affect us at the year by year as opposed to the month by month, but this apparent incongruity does suggest some type of both ending and new beginning in a way that is not merely transient.  Add to this the fact that Mars is standing still all month in Virgo, so I do expect a lot of people to get sidetracked from the bigger picture, preferring instead to focus and concentrate on details and minutiae.  The Cancerian full Moon on January 9th works very well with Mars, suggesting that there's no major schism or drama unfolding at the start of the year.  And the Aquarius new Moon on 23rd January is like a final shot across the bows, a signal to the future of engagement, that as of mid February onwards things will change permanently in an irrevocable way.  It's a month of jostling and jockeying for position, and a time of preparation without knowing what one is preparing oneself for.

The world won't end in 2012, although for many of us it may represent the end of the world as we have known it.  During 2012 the first two of at least seven squares from Uranus to Pluto start happening, in a way that will revolutionise ideas concerning individuality and personal free enterprise whilst at the same time by necessity bring a more acute and incisive edge into the cut and thrust of the evolving economic and political future.  This marks the end of the corporate credit and profit culture founded the Reagan/Thatcher administration, much of the invisible money will disappear in a puff of smoke, and individuals providing they stay transparent will achieve a greater degree of autonomy than previously supposed.  The Uranus/Pluto square will force us into revolutionising our ideas around personal responsibility whilst encouraging us to be more proactive in reaching out to others in the same space as ourselves.

Uranus/Pluto far outweighs everything else put together, both in 2012 and in the coming two-three years, but underlying this there are a couple of major movers and shakers and a number of interesting side developments in 2012.

The Saturn/Neptune trine from mid September to late October catches my eye as bringing a greater degree of structure into the imagination and vice versa, a time where laws can become less rigid and more common sense - and this is then followed at the end of 2012 by the start of a nine month sextile from Saturn to Pluto, suggesting the reformation of more flexible structures in the emerging new world.  And of particular interest is the first two weeks of March, when Mars, Jupiter and Pluto form a Grand Trine pattern, a time where all types of phenomena can occur, but where the predominant interest is that of possessions, assets, materials, resources, money and property.  For some of the little people, this can be an absolutely brilliant time.

In terms of timing, there are a few triggers.  As previously indicated, the first ten days of March can be very positive if moderation and common sense is exercised as much as other more expansive functions.  The new Moon conjunct Neptune on February 21 indicates a sudden spurt of dissolving in many people's lives, and the new Moon on March 22 conjunct Uranus can also be seen as a time of new beginnings, a fresh start.  All of this takes place during Mars retrograde, so I don't expect clear results to emerge from this mixture until May/June, when Jupiter leaves Taurus and moves into Gemini, bringing a greater emphasis on clearer and newer forms of communication.  The trigger time of greatest difficulty from my astrological perspective is when Mars moves into Cancer and square Uranus whilst opposing Pluto at the same time - a potentially explosive combination of the highest order.  This occurs during the period from about June 21 for four weeks until July 22, and by mid August has completely gone, with new roots and foundations coming firmly into place.

The full Moon on September 30 is exactly opposite Uranus, suggesting dramatic endings at some titular level, and the full Moon on December 28 opposite Pluto confirms this degree of separation from the common mass of people in some permanent way. But these full Moons are the exception, not the rule, and after early August the feel of the year is much easier for the vast majority of us than the times of March through to July.
